Mike Vandersteen

Representing the Restoration of our Trees Sheboygan

Mike Vandersteen recently retired as the Mayor of Sheboygan after serving in that position for the last eight years. Mike also served as the Chair of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative a bi-national advocacy group of Mayors from the Cities on the shore of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River in the US and Canada.

Mike began his government service as a citizen member of the Sheboygan City Plan Commission, Capital Improvements Commission and as a member and Chairman of the Board of Parks and Forestry Commissioners He was then elected to served as a Sheboygan Alderman, a Sheboygan County Supervisor and County Board Chairman. In 2013 Mike was elected Sheboygan Mayor and served until April of 2021.

Mike began his Sheboygan community involvement as a Sheboygan Jaycee, serving as Board member and President, Mike has also served on the Boards of Big Brothers and Big Sisters-President, Downtown Rotary and Rotary Foundation and the YMCA Board of Governors.

Mike was born and raised in Green Bay. He moved to Sheboygan in 1973 to Manage DuBois Formalwear, a position that he held for 40 years prior to his election as Mayor. Mike also served as President of the Sheboygan Downtown Association, the Harbor Centre Business Improvement District and was a member of the Sheboygan Development Association.

Mike and his Wife Julie have two children Rob & Katie and four granddaughters Caroline, Leah, Ruby and Amelia.
